Newcastle v Wolves - Match Preview

After a more than convincing 0-6 win over QPR on Tuesday, Newcastle now host Wolves on Saturday and the expectation, it’s fair to say, is very high.

Personally, I don’t think it’s going to be quite as easy as most people seem to think it’s going to be. Winning in the fashion we did at QPR was admittedly amazing and it really shows just how good this team can be. However, we’re Newcastle United; we don’t do things the easy way!

Everything seems to be rather straightforward at the moment though; 5 or so hours of clean sheets, highest goal difference in the league, 5 wins on the bounce and Wolves getting destroyed less than a week ago. My heart says this is an easy win, with a few goals for us, maybe a 3-0. However my head is saying more like a hard fought 2-1, or 1-1.

Wolves come into the game with a massive point to prove. After being smashed by Barnsley at Molineux on Tuesday, they’re going to want to prove the critics wrong and show everyone what they can do against a team that are still favourites to win the league. Newcastle are going to have to be on top form to get through this one.

As far as lineups go, I’d like to see Yedlin, Gamez or Lazaar get a start, with a full starting XI looking something like:

Sels; Lazaar, Mbemba, Lascelles, Yedlin; Hayden, Shelvey; Gouffran, Ritchie; Mitrovic, Gayle

I think we need to be a bit more forward thinking at home, and Mitrovic and Gayle could work wonders with each other.

In terms of a probable line up:

Sels; Dummett, Mbemba, Lascelles, Anita; Hayden, Shelvey; Atsu, Diame, Ritchie; Gayle

Around 7 of those could be completely wrong; we know how much potential Rafa's has for rotation!

One thing is for certain though; whatever team Rafa picks, it'll get our 100% faith and trust. He’s not steered us wrong so far and he knows a hell of a lot more about these things than we do!
