QPR 0-6 Newcastle - Reaction
Tuesday night saw what could only be described as a blistering, triumphant victory for our beloved united, matching their largest away win record set in 1962 v Walsall and making it 6 victories in a row, without conceding a goal in over 500 minutes of football also. A night that saw scrappy goals, screamers and a disallowed goal will only go down in history and will be recited for the rest of the season, and perhaps years to come.
The night got rolling In the eighth minute, seeing Perez have a goal controversially ruled out as being offside, showing the intentions of Rafa's boys to have a go at it right from the off, getting right at QPRs defensive line. Shortly after, in the twelfth minute, what would be Shelvey's first of the night 'treacled' over the line, after a rather large and unfortunate deflection in the eyes of a QPR fan. Perez soon doubled the lead with a tidy finish after a rebound. At this point the Toon fan were in fine voice as the lads walked for half time.
Come three minutes in the second half, Shelvey hit his second, with undoubtedly the goal of the night, a beautiful long range curling effort, landing just about as top bins as it gets. Ciaran Clark scored direct from a corner after that, before Mitrovic got his goal that he would have been craving on a sensational night like this, before the game was wrapped up with an instinctive goal from Grant Hanley, arguably the player you’d expect least to bag a goal.
Even without the star scorer Gayle, notching six goals away from home sums up the positivity surrounding the club at the minute. The football, the tactics, the support and everything to do with the club as a whole has just reached levels of positivity that could have only been dreamt on a year ago, pretty much solely down to the efforts of the current gaffer, the messiah, Rafa Benitez. Our dreadful away record has vanished, we are no longer conceding goals and appear to be able to conjure up goals in any game, and dare I say the stuff of champions to be?
Special mention must go out to Jonjo Shelvey, who hasn’t half turned his performances around since being dropped at the latter parts of last season, proving himself to be the player that we paid a substantial amount for, a warrior who can breeze through the Championship. As well as that, the 3,000 fans who travelled down to London for a Tuesday night game deserve credit, being in fan voice throughout, showing the support this club can and will get.
In conclusion, it’s fair to say things are great for Mags at the minute and as long as these performances can keep up, we should be able to take this league by storm, following the rocky start.
