Relegation: A good thing for these players?
Ahead of Saturday's home game with Bournemouth, we are 19th in the table and looking increasingly likely for relegation. Many will say it's a bad thing, and of course, you want to play football in the best league in the world, but in the event of a relegation, which younger players could reap the benefits of a drop to the Championship? Freddie Woodman
The young goalkeeper turned 19 today, and having already won silverware with the English national team, he looks like he is heading for a pretty successful career. In the event of relegation, it'd be hard to see Krul staying at the club, solely based on national team prospects. Rob Elliot, although solid, is getting old and I personally don't rate Karl Darlow. This could mean there is a big chance for Woodman to take and establish himself at a club like Newcastle. It would provide the keeper with a year to play Championship football ahead of progressing to the top flight. I only think it's a matter of time before Woodman becomes the NUFC number 1. Jamaal Lascelles
Now although Lascelles is currently playing, he is really yet to get an extended run in the team which could allow him to progress and challenge for a permanent first team spot. Once more, relegation could see Lascelles become a first team centre half, and there's no doubt he's already shown he's a talent, with his strength, ability in the air and an eye for a challenge, first team football is exactly the remedy for success. Rolando Aarons
In my opinion, this lad hasn't been given a fair chance at NUFC yet, despite his incredible breakthrough a while back with the performance in pre-season against Schalke. He had a run of football and injuries had really stalled his career. A proper run in the team at Championship level will allow Aarons to develop with NUFC into a future international winger. Adam Armstrong
Young Adam Armstrong has already proven that he will be a success as a professional footballer. Currently on loan at Coventry City, he has 19 goals making him the top scorer in League One. With our lack of goals, many felt it was right to recall Armstrong, however he has stayed at the Ricoh Arena to further his development. It'll be interesting to see whether NUFC choose to give Armstrong a chance even if we stay up, but just like Andy Carroll, a year of first team football in the Championship could really set his world alight.
